A semester of illustration

I apologize for how short this post is (considering this is my major) but we didn't do as many projects as other classes. I had an amazing teacher (George Pratt) who actually taught us many things. The most important thing I feel he taught us was how important process work is. He also did many demos of different ways that he has handled oils and watercolors.

This was part 2 of our first project. The very first project took us about a month, and a majority of that time was spent on thumbnails and ideation. I forgot to photograph the first part which was a paper cut out of 'Typical Sarasota Life'. We had to take the same idea (big shapes) and the idea process and apply it to an open assignment.

This was one of the watercolor techniques he showed us/had us try. It was a rub off technique and this is my Dulac master copy.

One of our assignments was to create a comic book (no preliminary sketches, just draw with a pen) from professional photographer's images.

Another assignment was to take a particular scene from a fairy tale and illustrate it. I chose Rumplestiltskin, particularly the point where he is turning the straw to gold.

Our final project was a book cover (either the front or a wrap around) of a futuristic Amelia Earhart.

For the last week of classes, he had a model come in so we could do some figure drawing (considering they dropped figure drawing for that semester) in the 'Academy Style' which emphasizes silhouette. This wasn't exactly that style, but I felt this one came our pretty nice for a 15 minute pose.

I had so much fun in this class and I'm really sad I had to switch my teacher.
