A semester of media!

This was by far my favorite class. We just experimented with different media styles and made projects based on that. It was a lot of fun.

Our first project was a pen and ink fish.

We also had a watercolor portrait assignment (I wasn't too fond of mine) but we also had a watercolor food assignment and I LOVED it so much I made two.

We also had an oil rub assignment but mine was atrocious so no one will ever see it again. We did have to do some ear practice because of it and I was more pleased with that.

Another project we had was a scratchboard project. I really enjoyed this one too.

THIS project was by far my favorite. It was done in acrylics and it's called every hair on the dog and you literally paint every hair. I just loved this one.

We had a collage project, but I can't post that yet because it's my mom's Christmas gift and she's pretty much the only person to look on my blog.

The very last project was a pastel still life.

And now we wait for next semester!
A semester of illustration

I apologize for how short this post is (considering this is my major) but we didn't do as many projects as other classes. I had an amazing teacher (George Pratt) who actually taught us many things. The most important thing I feel he taught us was how important process work is. He also did many demos of different ways that he has handled oils and watercolors.

This was part 2 of our first project. The very first project took us about a month, and a majority of that time was spent on thumbnails and ideation. I forgot to photograph the first part which was a paper cut out of 'Typical Sarasota Life'. We had to take the same idea (big shapes) and the idea process and apply it to an open assignment.

This was one of the watercolor techniques he showed us/had us try. It was a rub off technique and this is my Dulac master copy.

One of our assignments was to create a comic book (no preliminary sketches, just draw with a pen) from professional photographer's images.

Another assignment was to take a particular scene from a fairy tale and illustrate it. I chose Rumplestiltskin, particularly the point where he is turning the straw to gold.

Our final project was a book cover (either the front or a wrap around) of a futuristic Amelia Earhart.

For the last week of classes, he had a model come in so we could do some figure drawing (considering they dropped figure drawing for that semester) in the 'Academy Style' which emphasizes silhouette. This wasn't exactly that style, but I felt this one came our pretty nice for a 15 minute pose.

I had so much fun in this class and I'm really sad I had to switch my teacher.

A semester of painting!

So I have never really liked  painting (it was always acrylic) but over the past semester, I was introduced to oil paints. They were so much fun and I want ti keep them up as much as possible.  Here are my paintings in order of when they were made.

The following are gestural sketches from the performance of Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland performed by the Children's opera in Sarasota. We were allowed to attend a dress rehearsal and sketch from the audience.

The last part is the master copies we had to do for homework.
