Carter's Portfolio

So Carter's Inc. (a baby/young child clothing company) offered interested juniors and seniors a chance to participate in their 1 day workshop on campus. All we had to do was submit 10 portfolio pieces. In the end, they chose 10 seniors to be a part of their workshop. However in our desire for Carter's to consider us, many (if not everyone) applying created patterns and characters especially for them. I had a lot of fun doing these and would love to continue working like this.

Visual Development

Visual Development/Concept Sketches: The ideation and creation of characters/cars/animals/props/environments. Pretty much anything you can think of in any movie/tv show/game and even toys.

Here are some some concept artwork from Disney's Tangled:

If you still don't get it or just want to see more stuff, go to google and type in
"*insert movie/game title* concept art"

I thought I would love to do that kind of stuff. I learned that I don't. I still think the assignments sound fun and start out great but it's not my cup of tea. None the less, I am finishing the class and here are 3 assignments (the props are due tomorrow so they don't get the preliminary work) from start to finish.

Invented Anima Silhouettes: So again, we were randomly assigned an animal (mine was a cacomistle) and we had to keep the basic skeleton structure, but make an animal that looks nothing like the original.

Rough Vehicle Sketches; For this assignment, we were given a word at random and had to create 3 different vehicles (medic, scout and aggressor). One was chosen to take to full render. My word was kawaii (Japanese cute. Feel free to look it up to get a sense of it, but essentially everything gets an adorable face).

Props: A show on broadway is missing some set pieces. The crew has 6 hours to create new pieces for tonight's show. I chose Phantom of the Opera so I could stick to a story and have a theme in mind. The flashlights replaced the stolen candles.
Props: The gong replaced the stolen organ .

So I Finished My Second Year at Ringling.

I can't believe it's over and I'm so sad that I only have 2 years left. I want more.

The assignment was 'Your Dream'.  My dream is to be an  album cover artist, so I gave it a shot.

This project was called the 72 hour project, because that's how long we were given. I do not remember the story (I did not enjoy it that much).

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this comic project.

 Computer Illustration

The top 5 images were a part of our largest project for computer illustration. We were instructed to develop a character. Once we had our characters, we then had to put them in a setting.

This was our final project. We were given a list of Shakespeare characters and we had to put them in our world. I chose to do Falstaff.

Summer work/sketches will come at the end of summer!

Sophomore year mid way

So I've managed to make it to the midway point of the second semester and I have some things to show for my hard work.

Illustration

For this project we had to incorporate a hat, a car and a salt shaker in any way.
Medium: Vectors

The assignment was to illustrate an idiom. I used a few and I made a pull tab *note the eye change*
Medium: cut paper
Computer Illustration
I was originally really skeptical about this class, but so far it hasn't been that bad.

This was our first vector assignment and my first time using vectors. It turns out that I really enjoy vectors
Our second vector assignment was to create a portrait. I chose to do Haley Williams of Paramore. This one was bait more challenging, but still enjoyable.

We have just started photoshop and as an intro, we were instructed to paint something. Because I do no consider myself to have many photoshop skills, I chose (what I thought) was an easier beginner painting.

Painting

Our first assignment was a master copy.

Next we went outside for a landscape painting.

Our long project was an interior study.

Our final project for painting was an on-site painting were we came with a colored ground and had to paint the background/things around it.

More to come at the end of the semester.
